SOLARE

I created a sunscreen brand that strives for sustainability. The packaging features eco-friendly factors, such as seaweed-based materials, and post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR).

Project: Sustainable Packaging Brand

About This Project

Solare is a sunscreen brand targeted towards teens/pre-adults (15-25y/o). The design of the packaging attracts their eyes since it’s a simple design and has muted colors. This gives off a sophisticated and aesthetic look, giving off a young vibe and a high-quality look.

Brand Name

This brand name was created because the word solare means sunny, radiant, and cheerful, therefore the name fits well for a product that protects the skin from the sun. Another reason I went with this name was because sunscreen makes me think of the sun, heat, summer, a pool, protection/prevention, and a creamy texture. I decided on a typeface that looked very creamy and handwritten because I found it looked like the texture of sunscreen when you squeeze it out of the bottle.

Design Process

The design choice for the logo is meant to give a professional, high-quality looking brand, and a playful look by placing it sideways and by putting it in the middle on the front of the box. The logo is then centered on the sunscreen bottle to show professionalism and high-quality. The symbol I made is the brand name in a circle to represent a sun, and the letters close together in a circle also gives a sense of protection since they are close to each other. Because the box’s height is higher than the width, I chose to make the text read sideways, so it becomes legible.

Background Texture

I made a background texture with the brush tool that goes in a swirl motion to look like a sun, and the brush style looks like smeared sunscreen, like when people put shunscreen on, to continue the creamy texture.

Color Palette

For my color palette, I chose to go with orange as the main color since it represents the sun, warmth, happiness, and youthfulness. The creamy white color of the logo and the symbol gives warmth, comfort, and sophistication, which most pre-adults love.
