MELOPHOBIA

For this project, I re-created the Melophobia album by Cage The Elephant.

Project: Vinyl Design

Design Process

The designs focus more on the bands name, Cage The Elephant, as well as the meaning of the word Melophobia. The word melophobia means “the fear of music”, however the track list of this album revolves around the theme of having fear of making music based on expectations; the band wants to be honest in their music and avoid expectations of what their music should sound like.

The front sleeve shows an eye with an elephant in the middle, symbolizing the struggle to be transparent and look beyond the need to satisfy other people’s expectations. The added paint splatter brush, in the background, circles around the eye to represent a cage. Same for the elephant in the back, all people are seeing is how someone is not being honest. The paint splatter lines are there again to continue to portray a cage.

For the inner sleeve, I based it off their video from the song Come A Little CloserYoutube.com. This video is very colorful, has a bunch of illustrations, very simple shapes, very creative, and tells a story. The songs meaning reminds people that we must seek a deeper understanding and connection by looking beyond initial perceptions; things are not always what they seem.

The typeface on the cover of the front sleeve gives off a hallucination and deceptive look. The typefaces on the back on the front sleeve looks like it was handwritten, which is the bands style, which is why I also continued the handwritten font on the inner sleeve.
